Chef's Specials for week ending 10th May 2009

Greetings folks, i trust you are all well rested after a rather monumental bank holiday weekender. I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made it along to City Cafe on Sunday evening to what turned out to be a rather splendid wee party. Watch this space as i may be organising some more wee soirees down there in the not too distant future.

Anyway on to this coming weekend....

FRIDAY 8TH MAY 2009

Aztech presents Mr No Hands @ The Caves, South Niddry Street Edinburgh

If thundering funky breaks and shoot from the hip electro-boogie is your bag then you could do a lot worse than get your ass down to The Caves this Friday for the last Aztech party till October. Yes the city's Jack, Queen and King of breaks are about to embark on their summer holidays once again so they're throwing another beast of a break-fest to say thanks for all the support and to help them out in their quest they have enlisted the extraordinary dj talent that is MR NO HANDS.

"Scouted out at 2008's Glade Festival by Team Az, his reggae and funk-tinged sounds seemed to tempt the sunshine further out from behind the clouds and soon we were being bombarded with so many big dubby basslines and grooving breaks that we didn't know what had hit us! With influences taken from disco, electro-funk and hip-hop, and a strong link to cartoon and skater culture, Mr No Hands is bound to be full of surprises and will no doubt get us all bouncing right through spring and into summer before you can say Sneaky Az!

Residing on the prestigious Air Recordings label, Mr No Hands enjoys a DJ residency at Air @ London's Matter, and also edits and writes for Mixmag."

Support as always from RE:TOX, SIREN AND AL MAJIK

Entry on the night will cost £7/6 members
Doors 10.30pm - 3.00am

Fiasco presents Steph @ The Admiral, 72a Waterloo Street, Glasgow

If solid, bumpin, jackin house is more your thing then head out west to Fiasco country in Glasgow. As a wee precursor to their massive, upcoming secret location party the Fiasco lads Ed and Frazer have drafted in long time friend The Steph to help them out with this residents party which is sure to be another raucous affair. Steph has decided to leave for pasture new and is
emigrating to New Zealand next month so this Friday they are setting him loose on the hallowed Fiasco turntables to show off his skills which he's been honing since the late 90s. Expect heaps of classic jack tracks and a smattering of the freshest in bump 'n' swingin house.

Entry costs just £6 all night

Doors 10.30pm - 3.00am

This next one is a promotional sampler from the Jam The Box DJs, Jammiwam, Jimmy “Jammin” Thomas and Marmalade Maslin. Recorded in their usual club style of two tracks each and completely spontaneous track selection this is a good taste of how the guys play at their highly regarded clubnight here in Edinburgh. They were going for a two hour set but unfortunately a stylus died half way through so they were forced to wrap it up. I’m assured that the second hour will be recorded soon so I’ll post here as soon as I get the link.

Finally a taster of Toronto’s finest dj export, Jason Hodges. This set was recorded last month at Fiasco in Glasgow and is one of Hodges’s finest sets for a while. Absolutely impeccable mixing and outstanding track selection, showing why he’s one of the very best in the business right now.

No tracklisting for this one unfortunately.
