Birthday Madness Review

Well what can i say but sorry guys for my slightly prolonged absence. Its been nearly two weeks since my last confession on here and what a bonkers two weeks its been. If you've been following this blog regularly you'll know that a couple of weekends ago it was my birthday so in true C.D.P style I've been partying big-time.

Telefunken on Friday the 17th was one of the clubs most amazing parties yet and crikey i seem to find myself saying that after each one. Outstanding sets from Hoss Wilson, Alan Gray had the ever lively Telefunken crowd going crazy. Even a fire alarm evacuation halfway through Alan's set couldn't put a damper on things. Then Eddie Leader stepped up to take the roof right off. Awesome show all round!!! I'd like to thank all the crazies who ended up partying back at mine afterwards as well for all the birthday wishes and the efforts folks made to join in the fun.

On the Sunday Morning i headed to South Queensferry to take part in the annual charity abseil off the Forth Rail Bridge. One of the craziest ideas i think i've ever had and definately one of the most hair raising experiences of my life so far. When you're still feeling a bit ropey (excuse the pun) from a weekend of excess, dangling 165ft up from the nations most famous landmark is a hell of a way to shake off the hangover. Even halfway down i still couldn't believe i was actually doing it. I did however complete the drop and raised nearly £200 for Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland.

The following Saturday i was off on another adventure, this time my destination was London for my first clubbing experience in the UK Capital at Saved @ Matter, O2 Arena. After some quality banter and a few too many drinks on board the train down my mate Tracey and i headed to Campden town to for a bite to eat at Gordon Ramsay's York And Albany restaurant where we were meeting up with head chef and friend of ours Colin. The food was utterly amazing and the staff were all very friendly. Colin then joined us for a night on the town and when we arrived at Matter we were somewhat overwhelmed by the scale of the place. With a capacity of 2600 the club was at least double the size of the previously largest club venue i've been to!

We all spent most of the night in the smallest room upstairs but with a capacity of about 700 it wasn't really that small.

The original House Gangster DJ Sneak, aided and abetted by his old pal Derrick Carter, was supplyin some of the dopest, funky, ass shakin beats and rhythyms to a crowd of well up for it revellers. Tune after tune of pure house music indulgence made even better by the incredible sound system made this one hell of a night and one i'll remember for a long time to come. I was also very pleased to finally meet some other die hard house fanatics whom i've known through Facebook and Chicagohousefm for ages but never actually met face to face until Saturday, Travis Kell, Safe Smokingroove, Sista Stroke, Attilla The Hun and Big Mikee as well as the rest of the crew. All in all this was a fantastic trip and i can't wait to do it all again hopefully sometime soon.

Ex-Lone Swordsman Keith Tenniswood will be joining Keyte and Wolfjazz down at Sneaky Pete's on Friday for what is surely gonna be an insane sweatfest. While Andy was away djing most weekends Keith would spend his time in the studio laying down tracks which he would eventually release under his Radioactive Man moniker. To date his solo career has seen him release 3 albums, various eps and loads of top remixes for artists such as Freq Nasty, Meat Katie and Red Snapper.

SUNDAY 19TH APRIL 2009

CHEF DE PARTY'S BIRTHDAY MADNESS!!!!

Yes guys and gals it is indeed my 31st this comin sunday and to mark the occasion I've gone and got myself into a right old mess, if for the right reasons. You see this year I thought I'd do something a bit different for a change so instead of just gettin crazy and clubbing every night for a month I've rather crazilly agreed to do an ABSEIL off the FORTH RAIL BRIDGE!!! Now I don't even know if I suffer from vertigo, I didn't when I was a kid but in the last 10 years i think the highest i've been is probably the landing at the top of my stairwell so to say i'm a bit nervous is without a doubt the century's biggest understatement.

I am however doing it for a good cause. Namely the Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland charity. These guys do a very wothwhile job offering advice, support and caring for victims of heart disease and strokes. They really need our help, as to function properly they need to raise around £5,000,000 per year. I'm hoping i can raise around £500 for their cause by doing this abseil on Sunday so all i need is 100 of my mates or kind generous souls to donate a fiver each.

To sponsor me please click on the link below and pledge as much as you can.

Sponsor Chef to cheat death

Thanks folks.

Having settled into their new residence at The Admiral on Waterloo Street, Ed-FM and Frazer Devine are more than happy to be spinning alongside one of their favourite producers and remixer.

Hailing from Toronto in Canada, Jason brings with him an oustanding musical resume. Starting out in the early nineties he established his trademark style of mixing spinning at warehouse parties and also started releasing on small independant record labels.
Since then he has moved on in leaps and bounds and has now done work on such labels as OOMPH! Magnetic and the ever faithful Om records, and having a fan base that includes the likes of DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter and Mark Fairna, you know that your in for something special tonight at Fiasco!!

TROUBLE's 7TH BIRTHDAY PARTY AND FAREWELL FINALE
pt 1 @ Cabaret Voltaire, 36 Blair Street, Edinburgh, UK

This weekend night marks the end of an era for Edinburgh clubbing institution TROUBLE with the first part of their Birthday finale featuring a live set from Joe Acheson Quartet.

We've been putting Joe and his band on since they first started out as a trio. They supported the mighty Jaga Jazzist (Ninja Tune) at our first ever Glenfiddich Independent Mix night in March 2005. Expect an exclusive dance set from the band as they focus on their heavier, more upbeat material for the Trouble birthday, with the critically acclaimed Maja Borg joining Ivan Torres Hdez on VJ duties and Su-A Lee (SCO/McFall's) appearing as guest cellist.

'We couldn't possibly do justice to their enveloping acoustic/digital live performance in here. Quite like nothing else on the Edinburgh scene or elsewhere, they really must be sampled to be believed.' (The List)

Trouble continue their Birthday/Finale weekender with 2 musical heavyweights Horace Andy and Ashley Beedle.

"We jumped at the chance to work with Horace Andy, THE voice of Massive Attack's classic 1991 debut album, Blue Lines, and a Jamaican/reggae LEGEND in his own right. DJ/producer Ashley Beedle is most famous for his work with the Ivor Novello winning X-Press 2 but we've also loved his more leftfield Nineties dance productions under the Black Science Orchestra and Ballistic Brothers monikers and these days he's a busy remix artist, producer and DJ, who will be recognised immediately by regulars at Edinburgh's awesome Ultragroove house night."

Part 3 of the celebrations will take place at Chambers Street's Jazz Cellar with the Saturday Night Fish Fry show. This after party of sorts will also feature live music from Edinburgh band FOUND as well as support from the Trouble djs.

"Similarly we’ve been working with Found since they played an early Edinburgh gig for Trouble's GIM night at Cab in 2005. Since then they've expanded to a quintet and are now one of the most successful and critically acclaimed Edinburgh bands on the Scottish circuit and have - for some time now - been adding international live dates to a diary that's already brimming with shows up and down the UK. The mighty Found play the Fish Fry following their away-gig in Austin, Texas at industry hoe-down South By South West, in March, so this will effectively be their homecoming gig."

'Edinburgh’s Found both look and sound more and more like a band ready for proper success.' (The Scotsman)

Easter Sunday 12th April 2009

Ultragroove Easter Special featuring JIMPSTER and YOGI HAUGHTON @ The Cabaret Voltaire, 36 Blair Street, Edinburgh, UK

Edinburgh's longest running house music emporium are throwing their annual Easter Sunday spectacular once again and this time they've roped in the mighty Jimpster as well as local soul legend Yogi Haughton.

His seminal Jimpster LP Messages From The Hub (1997), as well as his more dancefloor orientated Audiomontage 12”s really helped establish Jamie as an artist of some merit and he quickly became in regular demand as a remixer (over 65 at the last count!) and co producer on a wide range of underground projects. His third Jimpster LP Amour was released 3 years ago on Freerange to excellent critical acclaim and appeared in numerous published Top 20 LP's of the year charts. In recent years he has released his first original track for another label, choosing Ben Watt’s Buzzin’ Fly for Square Up which became a big underground house track sitting in the top 5 of DJ Mag’s Hype Chart for 2 months. Recent artists to get the Jimpster midas touch in the form of a remix include Osunlade, Bob Marley, Joris Voorn, Seal, Mark Knight & Funkagenda, Marc Romboy, Solomun…. The list goes on.

Jamie "Jimpster" has built up his reputation as a highly regarded dj in the UK and around the world. With an emphasis on the deeper end of electronic house music, but not afraid to stray from the path, he retains an old school approach that has seen him booked for gigs as diverse as Fabric (London), Panarama Bar (Berlin), Cocoon (Frankfurt), Cielo (NYC), Yellow (Tokyo), Pacha (Ibiza), Crystal (Istanbul), GOA (Madrid) and Back To Basics (Leeds). He also runs the monthly Freerange night as his London residency at AKA.

He is also a member of highly acclaimed live outfit The Bays, whose recent performances on John Peel sessions have confirmed them as one of the most important live acts around today. Their spontaneous and totally improvised gigs have been building up a buzz with recent headlining gigs including many of the worlds best festivals such as Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Womad, Lowlands, Bestival and many others.

He will of course be supported by the ever moody Gareth Sommervile who, if you know your house, is a legend in his own right.

Yogi Haughto
n's credentials as a dance music lothario are world renowned. As owner of the largest collection of MOBO tunage in the UK his sets at some of the biggest soul music events such as SOUTHPORT WEEKENDER are the stuff of legend. He is also credited with bringing house and techno music to Scotland way back in the eighties. A party machine and all round good egg he's the perfect choice for backroom duties at Easter Ultragroove.

Jam The Box returns to The GRV this Saturday with the first of their Bi-monthly Live Jams.

This month's live bands will be The 10:04s, The High Lines and Lewis Gibson and The Midas Touch.

Jam The Box has been creating quite a stir since its launch party only a few months ago and is quickly becoming one of the most forward thinking and musically diverse clubnights on the city's calendar. Its highly talented dj team of Jimmy "Jammin" Thomas, Jammiwam and Marmalade Maslin create a mesmerising mix of house, funk, techno, soul, beatdown, hiphop and anything else that takes their fancy.
