The Chef's Special for Week Ending 31/05/09

Greetings troops! Hope you all had a top notch bank holiday weekend last weekend and that most of you have survived and are currently gearing up for yet another fun filled bonanza. To be honest i'm still feelin a bit fragile myself after partying with the House Arrest crew in Dunfermline last Friday then Glagow for Fiasco on the Sunday. Crikey what a rinse out!

Fiasco was quite simply superb all day. Fantastic tunes, great banter and some extraordinarily sound people helped to make it one of the best days out in a good long while. Even the notorious Weegie weather held out for us! Actually took me till Wednesday this week to recover although, as i mentioned, my vision is still some what fluffy around the edges.

This weekend there are plenty more parties on to get right in about so without further ado....

FRIDAY 29th MAY 2009
Club For Heroes presents Truffle Club Live (Optimo Espacio, Dissident , Wireblock) @ The Wee Red Bar at Edinburgh College Of Art, 74 Lauriston Place, Edinburgh.

First up is CLUB FOR HEROES which takes place at The Wee Red Bar @ Edinburgh College of Art. Founded back in January of 2008 by resident DJ Simon Eilbeck, aka Dr Love, the Club focuses on the deeper shades of underground disco from classics from the likes of Giorgio Moroder and the Salsoul stable to more modern twists of electro-funk, nu-jazz and broken beats and deeper shades of Detroit-esque techno. The club’s tagline is “Disco Sans Frontiers” and that, I feel, sums up the music policy here perfectly.

This coming Friday (29th May) sees Glasgow’s Dave Clarke aka Truffle Club making a guest appearance with a full live set. Simon is particularly excited about this because Truffle Club’s recent hit “Gone Blue” has become a bit of a dancefloor anthem at Club For Heroes. As one half of the Optimo production team alongside JD Twitch, Truffle Club has produced some ridiculously tasty tracks as well as having remixed many of the cooler bands around at the moment from Franz Ferdinand to The Glimmers. This will no doubt be one hell of a party and in the relatively small confines of The Wee Red Bar, the intimacy will inevitably create a truly electric atmosphere. Quite simply unmissable!

Creative Industries presents Trevor Rockliffe @The GRV, Hasties Close, Edinburgh

Creative Industries drops again on Saturday with residents G-Dubs and Stephen Brown joined by tech-house veteran Trevor Rockliffe for another nerve shattering session of raw machine funk.

With a career that stems back to the mid 80’s Trevor has always been a figure head in the uk techno and house scenes. As one of the very first Djs to be signed by Carl Cox to his Ultimate DJ Agency, Trevor’s sound and relentlessly good djing skills have earned him gigs in nearly every techno emporium on the planet. From Fuse in Belgium to Tresor in Berlin, from Twilo in new york to the far off reaches of Australia and New Zealand.

His drive to educate and entertain in equal measure has ensured his following around the world has continued to grow. After a short break from production since acclaimed “Visions Of You” on Ultimatum he’s bounced straight back with releases on labels such as Bush, Primevil, Dark House Music, Primary Records and Intec not to mention almost countless remixes he done in the past couple of years. This is his first time in Edinburgh for well over 4 years and the Creative Industries camp are delighted to have him on board!

Bang Bang Sunday Social@ The Speakeasy, Cabaret Voltaire, 36 Blair Street, Edinburgh

Sunday afternoons will never be the same again… Not if Bang Bang Club has anything to do with it anyway. Located in the decadent confines of Cab Vol’s lush new Speakeasy room, this early evening session of high quality underground dub, ambient and chillout music hopes to ease away those weekend hangovers with great atmospheres, strange yet soothing music and a good dose of hair of the dog treatments. With devilish Bloody Mary’s, Espresso Martini’s and Mary’s legendary homemade comfort food this looks to become a firm favourite amongst the most hardcore of weekend warriors.
